Georgetown has been starving for another great beer bar, so plenty of eyes are on The Sovereign, which also offers Belgian fare from chef Peter Smith. Here's what the first Yelpers, bloggers and other early reviewers have to say:

The Ballen Bitterballen News: The Sovereign is earning four stars on Yelp with 18 reviews in. Kevin L. says, "Meanwhile, the bitterballen are ballin' -- load those satisfying and succulent suckers up with the sinus-clearing mustard and go to town." [Yelp]

General Food Observations: Ma X. isn't a fan, stating, "Food was way bellow [sic] average. Rabbit overcooked, two steaks were mixed up and had to be returned for a touch up. Scallops were tasty, but presented on a bed of something looking smelling and tasting like baby food from a jar." Meanwhile, @samerfarha counters, "After last night’s trip to , I can say I’ve eaten most of the menu, and that they keep going from strength to strength. A++." Don Rockwell's Brooks Robinson notes, "Huge and flavorful mussels and crisp, proper Belgian fries. I had the burger, which was excellent. A friend had the coq au vin, which was succulent." [Yelp, Twitter, DR]

The Pedestrian Fries News: Joe L writes, "The frites I found disappointingly pedestrian, nothing like the twice-fried delicacies I've had in Europe, or even at Amsterdam Falafel in Adams Morgan."  [Yelp]

About The Service: Several Yelpers note service glitches but also point to knowledgable staff, particularly about beer. "The staff was exceptionally nice and well-motivated, even if the service was somewhat chaotic and uneven," writes Justin S. On Facebook, Casey notes, "Beer list was fantastic, especially if you like sours. If your server doesn't know something about the beer, they will send over someone who does." [Yelp, FB]

So. Much. Beer: "There's no point in me directing you to particular beers because it's already a carefully curated, high quality list. While not everything might be to your particular taste, you are guaranteed to drink something outstanding," says Calder S. Ray B. writes, "The beers were awesome. Served at the correct temp, in the correct glass, etc." Washingtony on Don Rockwell simply declares, "Their beer menu is bonkers." [Yelp, DR]

The Twitter Rave: @ZacharyFigueroa writes, "Best new #restaurant in #DC! Drinks are on point!!!" [Twitter]
