Get there first: Friday night drinks at The Sovereign

It's no secret The Sovereign opened this week (photos here). Those with the patience to fight the crowds should venture here if they want to hit Georgetown's hottest new option for Belgian beer, Genever cocktails and more. Pro tip: While this may seem like a beer bar on the surface, don't pass over the well-curated wine list.

Friday night dinner: Ruan Thai in Wheaton

It's Restaurant Week practically everywhere this weekend: Montgomery County, Alexandria, D.C. places that extended the promotion. So non-reservation Friday night dining is a bit of a challenge. Here's one to gamble on (or call ahead to): Ruan Thai, one of Wheaton's authentic Asian restaurants. Bonus: Ren's Ramen (in the same shopping center) got some ink this week, so outsmart the local crowds by going here, not there (at least this weekend; Ren's is a gem, too).

Saturday lunch: The Burger at Brine

The D.C. area doesn't lack in burger options (and there's no sign of that stopping with chains like Wahlburgers headed here). But the list narrows a bit when it comes to truly satisfying or unique burgers. One of those is at Brine, a recent addition to the Eater 38. The burger is topped with onion jam, a vegetable relish and more, and it's a winner.

Sunday Lunch: Momofuku CCDC

Word's still getting out about Momofuku's new weekend lunch offerings, especially since they just kick off this weekend. Try it out this Sunday, when many people will be tied up with Super Bowl plans. Find the famed buns, two types of ramen and more on the menu.

Sunday Day-Drinking: Port City Brewing Company

Happy fifth anniversary to this pioneering Virginia brewery. Official celebrations are Friday and Saturday, so toast the brewery's success in more of a low-key atmosphere come Sunday.
