Three D.C. chefs are finalists for the 2016 James Beard Awards.
For Best Chef Mid-Atlantic, local representatives included Peter Chang of Peter Chang in Arlington and Aaron Silverman of Rose's Luxury. Mark Furstenberg of Bread Furst is a nominee for Outstanding Baker.
Two non-local restaurateurs with a D.C. presence were nominated, including Michael Mina of Bourbon Steak and Stephen Starr of Le Diplomate.
The James Beard Foundation has been announcing the nominees via a livestream since noon (Eater is updating live with the nominees here). Several more local chefs made the long list of James Beard Semifinalists back in February, but only a handful made the final cut.
Some local journalists were among the print and broadcast nominees, among them critic Todd Kliman for his "Otherwise" Washingtonian column and a story for "Lucky Peach," Tom Sietsema for his "Best Food Cities" series, Pati Jinich of "Pati's Mexican Table" and several NPR nominations.
Find the foundation's Twitter stream here. The award winners will be revealed during a celebration in May.
