Tuesday, March 22, is a good day for big-name restaurant openings. Kyirisan, the first District-proper eatery from Tim Ma, serves its first dinner tonight. Kyirisan is located at 1924 8th St. NW, in the Shay development.
The menu is heavy on Southeastern Asian flavors, and is divided into three categories — "in the ground," "on the ground" and "under the water," reports The Washington Post.
Decor-wise, the vibe Ma was shooting for was homely, non-hipster: blue and white and wood, plus, in the corridor, a set of antique panels imported from China that once hung in his uncle's former restaurant.
