Some people head to a Neighborhood Restaurant Group destination for the beer (think ChurchKey, Bluejacket). Other drinkers are more focused on the wine (Iron Gate can oblige). Usually when anyone shows up, they discover the restaurant actually caters to both.
NRG is having some fun with its dueling strengths and pitting its two big beverage guys against each other. Beer director Greg Engert will face off against Wine Director Brent Kroll at The Partisan on April 25. They're calling the dinner, "The Battle of the Bottles."
Chefs Nathan Anda and Thomas Harvey will create a three-course menu for the event. The meal will feature three pours of beer and three pours of wine — attendees will vote on the winning pairings to crown a winner.
The meal is $65, and will include dishes like wild boar pate with lardo and pork loin with a wild mushroom crust. It's a collaboration with the new DC Food and Beverage Collective, a new membership organization focused on educational events and scholarship programs for the industry (members get $10 off for the dinner).
