Inside Ashlar, Kimpton's Revamped Alexandria Tavern

The opening for the Morrison House destination is tomorrow

Ashlar, the new restaurant and bar for Kimpton's Morrison House Hotel, opens tomorrow.

Inside, see blue walls with golden accents in the bar area (the restaurant has softer earth tones), historical photographs, and a variety of ornate seating styles. The design comes from DH Design of Los Angeles, and there is seating for 32, with 18 more seats at the bar. There will be a patio as well.

In the restaurant, chef Chef Bobby Surdam is overseeing a Mid-Atlantic menu with dishes like snapper crudo, cauliflower steaks and blue crab fritters. Bartender Maria Concepcion's drinks have colonial influences (think bases like rum and madeira). The restaurant replaces The Grille, as part of the hotel's recent renovation.
