Virginia May Still Get a Cat Cafe

Things are moving slowly for one project in the works

A cat cafe for Virginia hasn't yet materialized, but the woman hoping to bring the concept there hasn't given up hope yet.

Nyree Wright started a crowd-funding site last fall for a cat cafe (capitalized by the company as "pHinicky pHeline"). The campaign raised a little more than $7,000 ($65,000 was the goal). Wright tells Eater, though, she's still planning to open the cafe, even if the timing isn't clear at this point.

"The process is much more arduous than I originally thought so it's taking significantly longer," Wright said via email. She has not yet signed a lease, finding that landlords aren't always amenable to the concept of housing cats on the premises.

D.C. received its first cat cafe about a year ago in Georgetown, called Crumbs & Whiskers.
