Bethesda's getting a new fast-casual option come mid-August. That's when Modern Market, a Colorado-based chain focused on additive-free quick meals using local ingredients, is opening up shop at 4930 Elm St. at Bethesda Row. It's the company's first DMV-area (and East Coast) location. Other locations are scattered throughout Colorado, Arizona and Texas.
Modern Market's Bethesda menu will resemble those from its other locations: egg sandwiches and scrambles, whole-grain waffles, pizzas with high-protein crusts and "home-style platters": plates that include a protein, a veg and a starch. Entrees hover in the $10 range.
As the focus is on local ingredients, the Modern Market team has a roster of ingredients sourced from nearby farms and producers. Those include Compass Coffee, Capital Kombucha and Atlas Brewing. The farm-sourced items will come from a bit farther away — NY's Satur Farms and Greater Tater, Philips Mushroom Farm in PA, among others.
