Drift on 7th is Bringing Back the Chef's Former FishNook Tasting Menu

It's happening Mondays and Tuesdays, and will be super seasonal

Shaw’s sustainable seafood stop Drift on 7th is launching a tasting menu option that will be familiar to fans of the restaurant's previous incarnation, Fishnet.

FishNook, a tasting menu from chef-owner Ferhat Yalcin, will resurface Aug. 1 and 2 and continue every Monday and Tuesday, running $65 for five courses and $35 for beverage pairings.

A little background: In 2014 Yalcin debuted FishNook, a four-seat prix fixe experience located inside the actual kitchen of the restaurant (then known as Fishnet). Last summer Yalcin shuttered Fishnet and re-opened as Drift on 7th in the same spot in February.

The dishes the chef plans to serve at FishNook will be game-time decisions, the chef said. What's available at the weekend farmers market will dictate the lineup, so Yalcini says he "really won't know" the menu until the day before service. Yalcini takes his time on produce trips, frequenting the Dupont Circle and College Park farmers markets for three hours at a time to sip coffee and craft a menu before collecting ingredients.

The time is right to revive the tasting menu, he says, because the restaurant has stabilized and he's comfortable with the staffing. Like before, there will be only one seating for four people within the kitchen at 7 p.m. To keep no-shows at bay, guests will have four days prior reservations to cancel — otherwise their credit card will be charged.

The laid-back Drift delivers a slice of the beach to Shaw, buoyed by dishes like crab cake sliders and Tots ’n’ Tentacles.
