What a win for Washington. Bon Appetit decided that D.C. was the best city for dining during 2016. Restaurants including Bad Saint, The Dabney, and Tail Up Goat were recognized as formidable newcomers, and the publication's love letter to D.C. mentioned plenty of other reasons to head to the nation's capital (even if they were a little more incredulous about the city's success than they needed to be). Recognition is always appreciated, and D.C. might see a bit of a tourism boom as a result.

2. President Barack Obama Celebrates His Birthday Dinner at Fiola Mare

D.C.'s always interested in where the President and First Lady are headed for dinner. For this particular special occasion, the Georgetown waterfront's Italian seafood destination was the draw. Passersby even sung "Happy Birthday" to the President when he visited.
