Brunch Wire

Whaley’s is doing a soft-launch of its brunch service this weekend, with the menu formally kicking off on Aug. 13. Brunch service will run both Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Menu items include chicken-fried oysters, pancakes with peaches, Carolina Gold Rice "carbonara" and a crab cake — they’ll also highlight cocktails, wines and frescas.

In the "why?" department:

Taco Bell is rolling out fried chicken shells nationwide. They’ll stuff them with chalupa fillings and release them sometime next year. [E]

Flashback

Georgetown Metropolitan dug up some information on a former sister restaurant to Martin’s Tavern, called Billy Martin’s Carriage House. He has some old photos and menu items. The restaurant opened in 1952. [GM]

For the love of Lambrusco

The Partisan is again hosting a Lambrusco Week for lovers of the fizzy red wine. The action kicks off Aug. 15 and includes 10 featured wines, a Lambrusco tasting party, flights with pairings, and more.
