The Ugly Mug Gets a Facelift, and a New Roof

Not such an ugly mug anymore

While its downstairs space gets a makeover, The Ugly Mug is opening a huge roof upstairs this week.

The extensive new 3,000-square-foot digs includes a 100-seat dining area, 13 high-definition flat screen televisions, a retractable glass ceiling with a water misting system, cell phone charging stations, line pour whiskey barrels directly affixed to the bar, and 24 beers on tap.

Based on a photo of the new space, it appears a hodgepodge of mismatched wallpaper and exposed industrial ceiling will add to The Ugly Mug's playful charm. Also on tap: a stage for fit for live performances, plus satirical murals mocking politicos.

The downstairs bar will close temporarily to get its own redo and will reopen in early 2017. Thursday is the last night before it goes under the knife, and the new space upstairs opens Friday at 4 p.m. The grand opening is slated for Sept. 23.

Popular around town for its 100-oz. beer towers, the Ugly Mug tends to draw in the sports bar crowd, as well as locals.
