We now know much more about the forthcoming boozy outpost from Brent Kroll, thanks to Washington City Paper. After four years of research — and plenty of hype/expectation from fans — Kroll has signed a lease for his forthcoming wine bar, in Shaw, and it will open in the late part of spring of this year.
Kroll’s new spot will seat 30 (with more seating in a patio area) and will focus on both value and under-the-radar wines — something he’s done while at his other jobs. Kroll moved to D.C. in 2008 to oversee the wine list at Bardeo; while there he emphasized moderately priced wines. While at other gigs — The Partisan, Iron Gate — he added less-expected wines to the menu.
Kroll told WCP that his new space — which he’s opening in partnership with Fat Baby Inc. — will focus on “indigenous varietals and underutilized regions,” though they’ll also serve “the classics.” There will also be other booze — cocktails, beer — as well as food that eats like a meal (not simply bar snacks.)
