1) PENN QUARTER— The Smith, a modern American brasserie and bar with four Manhattan locations, is nearing its arrival at 901 F St. NW. The new debut date is slated for Jan. 30. [PLYWOOD]

2) GOLDEN TRIANGLE - Fine French restaurant Le DeSales, the 100-seat eatery at 1725 DeSales St. NW, is prepping for an opening at the end of this month. The 3,100-square foot space has a white stone bar and huge glass-enclosed wine display. [PLYWOOD]

2) MULTIPLE LOCATIONS— About 10 D.C.-area McDonald’s locations are getting modern makeovers this month to speed up the fast food experience via new self-order kiosks and other tech-savvy adds. Expect 25 D.C.-area locales on board by spring. [PLYWOOD]

3) PETWORTH— The team behind popular food truck DC Empanadas has a more definitive opening date for its new Taqueria del Barrio shop: mid-March 2017. The 2,200-square-foot modern taqueria at 821 Upshur St. NW will make its own tortillas and have lunch and dinner to start. [PLYWOOD]
