Opening Alert
It’s like a supergroup of breakfast stuffs: Park View coffee bar Colony Club has rounded up gourmet java from Ceremony Coffee Roasters in Annapolis. Md., and Tandem Coffee Roasters in Portland, Maine, and bagels from Bullfrog Bagels, and is selling them all from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. — beginning today — at DGS Delicatessen in Dupont under the banner of Sadie’s Weekdays. It’s a “nod to the classic New York bagel shop, with an emphasis on quality ingredients and preparation,” the proprietors said of a venture expected to serve hot and iced coffee, as well as bagel-based nosh.
Panda-ering
Panda-in-chief Bao Bao must return to her homeland, China, in the coming weeks. But Burger, Tap & Shake isn’t going to let the beloved omnivore go without a proper send-off. In February the burger chainlet plans to feature Bye-Bye, Bao Bao ($9), a black- and white bean-burger topped with Napa cabbage, bean sprout slaw and ginger-hoisin aioli, along with a complementary, fruit-filled shake. The plan is to donate $1 from every farewell burger sold to Friends of the National Zoo.
Chew on This
Dessert scion Andrew Gifford dishes about the family business in “We All Scream,” a memoir about the Gifford’s Ice Cream empire — a one-time Washington institution — that sounds bittersweet (at best). [TGD]
