The Alex, the intimate underground bar at the Graham hotel in Georgetown, wants its customers to craft personalized cocktails that will then be compiled into a leather-bound “phone book” of custom recipes.

Starting on Friday, October 20, a new “You Make The Call” promotion at the two-year-old hotel bar (1075 Thomas Jefferson Street NW) works like this:

  • Choose a base spirit from local distiller Jos. A. Magnus & Co. (Joseph Magnus Bourbon, Vigilant Navy Strength Gin, or Royal Seal Vodka)
  • Select mixers, garnish, and stemware
  • The personalized cocktail recipe will be added to “The Phone Book” — a heavy brown leather journal maintained by the bar staff — along with a Polaroid photo taken by staff and the creator’s name
  • Optional: Return with a date and nonchalantly ask to order said drink

The build-your-own-beverage program is open to the public, with no reservations required.
