Expansions
Washington Business Journal reports that Urban Butcher chef Raynold Mandizabal is expected to open a 4,000-square-foot restaurant next summer in a new retail/housing complex in Silver Spring, Maryland. No word on whether it will feature a “meat mountain” similar to the mixed grill Mandizabal introduced earlier this month at his flagship eatery. [WBJ]
SWAG
Global chain Nando’s Peri-Peri is giving away food from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 1, at its Dupont Circle location (1210 18th Street NW). Dine-in customers can claim quarter chickens, chicken sandwiches, wraps, or pitas on a first come, first served basis (while supplies last).
Developments
PoPville has pictures of the gaping hole on 19th Street NW that once was a Smith & Wollensky. The former steakhouse is destined to become a Marriott hotel. [PoPville]
Food Media

Washingtonian sifts through the latest data from Restaurant Business magazine and finds that seven local eateries — including sibling establishment the Hamilton, Great American Restaurant group steakhouse Mike’s American, and homegrown chain Founding Farmers — landed in the top 100.
