Holiday cheers

One of the benefits of having a Starbucks Reserve bar like the one in Brookland is that the Seattle-based coffee giants shares its newest stuff there first. The latest arrival is a holiday-themed latte produced with the 2017 blend of Christmas coffee, a syrup flavored with dried juniper berries and oranges, as well as juniper-spiked sugar. There’s also an affogato version featuring juniper-flavored ice cream and espresso.

Coffee collaboration

Virginia-based Southeastern Roastery will begin roasting its beans and serving freshly brewed coffee Saturday, November 25, at Songbyrd Record Cafe in Adams Morgan. The new arrangement provides the fledgling coffee maker with a semi-permanent home inside the city.

Chef shuffles

Aspiring restaurateur Malik Fall has left the restaurant and champagne lounge he opened in Shaw just two months ago. Fall tells Eater that he departed 1230 Restaurant November 12 due to irreconcilable differences with management. He says he’s working on doing something else in D.C., and has lined up some pop-up dinner dates both here and in New York.

Expansions

Burgeoning chain Mission BBQ is building toward its goal of opening 80 restaurants along the East Coast before the end of 2018 by adding a new shop in Gainesville, Virginia Monday, December 11. The store at 13944 Promenade Commons Street will be the company’s 13th outpost in Virginia.
