Upsizing
Former food truck Seoul Food DC is trading the cozy home it’s carved out for itself inside a gas station in Wheaton, Maryland, for a standalone eatery in neighboring Takoma Park. The new restaurant (7302 Carroll Avenue), which will continue to focus on Korean food/vegan cuisine, is expected to feature expanded seating along with new drink offerings (think: beer and wine) when it debuts in early 2018.
Downsizing
Decade-old Italian restaurant Amici Miei is moving from Potomac, Maryland, to a more compact space in Rockville — the new spot is roughly 40 percent smaller — due to a pending rent hike. Management plans to close the current outpost (1093 Seven Locks Road) Thanksgiving weekend, and resurface at 6 N. Washington Street before the end of the year. [Bethesda Magazine]
Renovation report
Popville’s got a photo gallery of the ongoing work Ledroit Park restaurant Dcity Smokehouse (203 Florida Avenue NW) is doing on its patio. The new configuration will allow barbecue fans to dine al fresco along Second Street NW and Florida Avenue NW.
Food diplomacy
Restaurateur and area native David Chang urged picky eater President Donald Trump to dine like locals do during the commander-in-chief’s trip to South Korea.
Hey @realDonaldTrump while in Korea eat this!!! It’s just like a taco salad. Believe me you will love it. pic.twitter.com/cxF7BUL55C
— Dave Chang (@davidchang) November 7, 2017
It seems Chang’s pitch to slurp bowls of kimchi-laced stew while abroad has so far gone unheeded; Trump’s mostly stuck with burgers, tacos, and ice cream.
