Pizza joint heading to Navy Yard while Mount Pleasant gets Moorish cooking

[R. Lopez]

Expansions

Presidential Restaurant Group wants to play ball, selecting Navy Yard as the next home for Declaration pizza. A second location is slated to open on the 1200 block of First Street SE either late this year or in early 2018. The menu will feature the same gourmet pies and modern American fare corporate chef Demetrio Zavala developed for the original outpost. PRG is also growing, welcoming local businessman Alan Bubes, who recently became co-owner of Chad’s in Friendship Heights, to the management team.

Coming Attractions

New restaurants are on the march all over town.

Nido co-founder Karlos Leopold and Erin Lingle are sticking with Mediterranean food for their follow up project but exploring other neighborhoods. The forthcoming Mola!, which the Washington City Paper says is expected to debut this spring, intends to champion Spanish drinks and celebrate Moorish cooking.

Meanwhile, Mission BBQ continues branching out across the DMV with a pair of new restaurants. Maryland is up first, scheduled to receive a new outpost at 885 Rockville Pike on March 13, with Virginia following close behind with a grand opening at 13067 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway in Chantilly on March 20th. Each debut will be preceded by several days of charity events benefiting local law enforcement, firefighters and military personnel.
