The paint probably isn’t even dry yet on the Logan Circle outpost scheduled to come online tomorrow, but the Shake Shack-ification of the District continues March 23 with the further expansion of the New York-based burger stand into Navy Yard. The new addition, taking up residence at 54 M St. SE, is just blocks from another Shake Shack embedded within Nats Park. The latest venue’s locally inspired concrete is the M Street Treat, frozen vanilla custard swirled with chocolate truffle cookie dough, sugar cone cookie, and chocolate sprinkles.
Hellbender Brewing Company is getting the band back together March 25 via the third annual Hopfest, a celebration of big, bold local beers that also happens to benefit the DC Brewers Guild. Over two dozen producers have signed on to show their stuff this year, including a who’s who of craft brewers from around the DMV. Tickets to the event, which is scheduled to take place from 7 p.m to 10 p.m. at Hellbender (5788 2nd St. NW), are $50 per person; admission includes unlimited 3-ounce tastes from the participating breweries.
The race is on to find the next “it” cocktail, and local drink makers can add to the conversation by entering the United States Bartenders’ Guild’s “Most Imaginative Bartender Competition.” The application process opens today; entrants will be pared down to 12 regional finalists over the next few months. The main event is scheduled to take place in England this August.
Need something cold to quell the memory of #StormStella?
Dairy Queen’s got the answer: free cone day.
On March 20 participating locations plan to give away free small cones of vanilla soft serve (one per customer) to commemorate the first day of spring. Donations will be accepted on behalf of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. According to DQ, last year’s giveaway raised over $200,000.
