Mirthmaker Mythology has made drinking legendary amounts of Scotch (a la Ron Burgundy) a reality by welcoming Anchorman-themed pop-up bar, Stay Classy, to the Atlas District — possibly for the long haul.
The tribute bar, which celebrates comedian Will Ferrell’s iconic turn as a clueless television broadcaster, just debuted inside the H Street restaurant this week. But unlike previous iterations of the movie-based watering hole that have briefly materialized across America, this pop-up intends to stick around for a while.
“This one is the crown jewel and we may just take up residency in D.C. for the rest of the year,” a Stay Classy spokesperson told Eater in an email, noting, “It’s our biggest and most ridiculous spectacle yet.”
Try not to blush while ordering cocktails ($10-$16), as titles true to Ferrell’s blockbuster film include “A Whale’s Vagina,” “Big Foot’s Dick,” and “Smelly Pirate Hooker.”
Stay Classy started in New York last fall and has since popped up in California (ironically in Los Angeles, not San Diego). Its latest stop in Boston in March added food into the mix.
Mythology’s version boasts the most dining options to date, with starters ($10-$13) like smothered fries, and “Dirty Diaper With Indian Food” featuring curried hummus. Entrees ($16-$29) include “Ron’s Steak Frites,” “A Nice Seafood Dinner,” “Boats & Hoes Burger,” and “More Cowbell” — a vegetarian option.
Event promoters mentioned putting together a cocktail party and happy hour events leading up the the release of Ferrell’s latest flick, The House, on Friday, June 30.
In the meantime, Team Stay Classy suggested that it’s up to D.C. to decide how long the antics will continue. If crowds keep forming, the bar may hang around through the end of the year. If attention wanes, “we may leave in three weeks — [it] just depends on how it’s received,” the Stay Classy spokesman said.
Status: Certified open, Wednesday to Sunday, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. for food and until 2 a.m. for drinks; 816 H Street NE; website.
