Kwame Onwuachi, the Top Chef alum and co-founder of the short-lived Shaw Bijou, has signed on as chef for the new restaurant at the InterContinental hotel heading to the mammoth The Wharf complex.
Joining a large-scale commercial hotel project is a huge pivot from his previous role manning the experimental Shaw Bijou’s small prix-fixe menu. That highly anticipated and exhaustively covered restaurant suddenly closed less than three months after its high-profile opening.
Onwauchi’s stayed somewhat busy since decamping from Shaw, offering up his talents to a pop-up kitchen in his first cooking appearance since the closure. And from the looks of his Instagram account, he’s done a fair amount of traveling.
A spokeswoman for the still-under-construction property told Eater additional details about the new restaurant would be revealed in mid-July. The eatery is slated to debut inside the new 278-room hotel this fall.
