The Halal Guys Close Problematic H Street Restaurant

Fast-casual chain now looking around Union Station

Less than two months after bringing its brand of sauce-covered gyros, falafel, and hummus to the District, New York-born chain The Halal Guys has closed a troublesome location in Northeast and is already exploring a move westward.

"The newly opened Halal Guys on H Street NE in Washington, D.C. has closed this week indefinitely due to equipment maintenance issues,” the operators of the now-famous food cart said in an official statement about the unsatisfactory operation that got underway in early May. “We are currently addressing the unforeseen problems identified and will provide updates as they become available."

A local operative told Eater that the sudden shuttering could be resolved “by the end of the week,” but also left the door open to finding a more suitable space. “We are already making plan B arrangements which may mean we will be closer to Union Station,” the fast-casual insider said. No word on where exactly (or when) this new storefront might pop up.

The Halal Guys have another restaurant in Dupont Circle, as well as three other outposts in Northern Virginia.
