D.C’s Getting Two Blue Bottle Coffee Shops in the Next Few Months

California-based company is headed to Georgetown and Union Market

Blue Bottle Coffee, the specialty roaster with nearly three dozen outposts spread across California, New York, and Japan, is planting specially designed cafes in Georgetown and Union Market this summer and fall.

Per promotional materials released earlier this year, the core components of each Blue Bottle shop include: a coffee bar, seating, a condiment bar, and “a romantic corner or ‘place to kiss.’”

The Oakland, Calif.-based chain is in full expansion mode, adding a half dozen spots in New York as well as plotting moves into Miami and Boston. A spokeswoman declined to provide additional details about the shop taking shape at 1046 Potomac Street NW, but company documents list July 7 as the tentative opening date.

That timeline fits with what a Blue Bottle representative present at the James Beard Foundation Sunday Supper this past weekend was telling individuals about the plans for D.C. The vendor said the Union Market shop should be ready later this year. She urged everyone to visit the Georgetown store in the coming weeks.
