Employees Sue Farmers Restaurant Group for Stiffing Staff, Plus More Intel

Strip club expansion riles Mount Vernon Triangle

The Washington Post reports that current and former employees of Farmers Restaurant Group — the parent company of Founding Farmers, Farmers Fishers Bakers, and Farmers & Distillers — have filed suit against the company for alleged labor violations. Some of the complaints include not paying overtime to workers who logged more than 40 hours a week at multiple establishments within the family of restaurants, forcing staff to attend pre-shift meetings without clocking in, and requiring employees to spend their own money on work-related necessities (uniforms, office supplies). Neighbors to strip club: stay covered up

Washington Business Journal is tracking an ongoing battle between Cloakroom, a strip club in Mount Vernon Triangle that’s trying to add a rooftop deck following renovation efforts dating back to a fire that damaged the building in 2014, and members of the surrounding community who say the new addition would compromise the “peace, order and quiet” in the area. Filipino food for Arlington

ARLnow reports that restaurateur Solita Wakefield, co-owner of the now-closed Bistro 7107 in neighboring Crystal City, plans to give Filipino food another go with Bistro 1521 in Ballston. Wakefield’s taking over the Applebee’s that closed last month (900 N. Glebe Road) and has already applied for a new liquor license. [ARLnow]
