Booming H Street looked a lot different when Boundary Road opened in 2012, and now it’s the end of the road for the farm-to-table American bistro, reports Frozen Tropics. Goodbye, funky mattress chandelier.
Something seemed up last week when a sign on Boundary Road’s door said the restaurant was closed due to air conditioning problems. Boundary Road kicked off its five-year run with a visit from President Obama almost immediately after opening, and excelled at creative menu names like the I’m Thinking About Getting a Vespa cocktail.
Opening in the same spot will be Bar Elena, which Frozen Tropics reports is spearheaded by an owner at Boundary Road, Karlos Leopold, and Chef Adam Stein, who has worked at many restaurants on the H Street Strip.
Expect some holdovers from Boundary Road at Bar Elena, such as a focus on craft cocktails and local beers and spirits. It sounds like menu prices will be similar to Boundary Road too, with everything in the $11 to $26 range.
What’s new is an expanded bar and arcade games, including pinball machines. Bar Elena is slated to open in late August.
