Navy Yard hot spot Osteria Morini is expanding its reach along the Southeast waterfront with a satellite food and drink stand that’s closer to all the summer action.
The new sister spot, now under construction, could debut in late August, general manager Jesse Hiney tells Eater. Details about the offshoot are limited, but expect a bar serving draft beer and wine, as well as a pared-down menu of what’s available at the flagship restaurant. That includes made-to-order salads, the New York-transplant’s iconic meatballs, and simple desserts, Hiney says.
The new space will be outfitted with bar stools and will house around 20 tables to start. The location will sit right next to the bridge where kids splash around, and Hiney imagines the boozy kiosk will be a nice respite for parents. Hiney recently detailed the popularity of the Italian sgroppino cocktail — a whimsical drink combining sparkling wine and sorbet — being served at the Altamarea Group restaurant.
It’s not the first restaurant at The Yards to move the party closer to the water; This spring Whaley’s debuted its airy and tropical Rose Garden. The neighborhood will get yet another drinking option when District Winery opens in the coming weeks.
