Homegrown deli and charcuterie shop Straw Stick & Brick Delicatessen is closing on Monday, July 31. Co-founder Carolina Story tells Washingtonian that the five-year-old Petworth eatery has been sold to someone who “plans to renovate the space and open up some kind of restaurant and retail space.” [Washingtonian]
Over in Logan Circle, pre-packaged sushi provider Maki Shop is closing its shop at 1522 14th Street NW on Saturday, July 29. Per a release, the two-year-old establishment plans to continue supplying its signature rolls to catering clients and online delivery services (Caviar, Postmates).
Cookie dough crew wants to spread across the DMV
Upstart sweets shop Cookie Dough & Co. is scheduled to open its first location at Westfield Montgomery Mall on Saturday, August 5. The company, which plans to serve various ready-to-eat cookie dough flavors — including red velvet, chocolate chip, and “unicorn” (featuring white chocolate chips, rainbow sprinkles, and “unicorn blessings”) — on its website says to “stay tuned for updates” about additional shops in Northern Virginia and the District. The Bethesda shop is also expected to serve La Colombe Coffee.
Union Station lands a new juice bar
New York-born Juice Press is replacing now-defunct Crumbs Bake Shop in Union Station. The health-oriented chain plans to begin selling its cold-pressed juices, smoothies, and salads to commuters this summer.
