The owners of peel-and-eat seafood chain Chasin’ Tails and gourmet drink shop, Teas ‘N You, have added poke to their portfolio with quick-service spot, Lei’d. In addition to dishing out the now-ubiquitous BYO bowls and salads — featuring tuna, salmon, shrimp,, scallops, or tofu — Lei’d also heaps its raw ingredients atop nachos. Rockville Nights reports on the arrival of Lab Cafe, a new drink spot specializing in gourmet coffee, bubble teas, and “tea slush.” The nascent shop features beverages prepared at six levels of sweetness and four degrees of iciness. Community rallies around injured bartender
DCist reports that donors have already pledged over $17K to help a bartender from local gay bar, JR’s, who was injured in July by unknown assailants. Local authorities are investigating whether the attack, which left the hospitality worker with a broken neck, may be a hate crime.
Truckeroo’s back
Head over to the Fairgrounds in Navy Yard (at M and Half streets SE) from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, August 4, for live music, a beer garden, and assorted offerings from over a dozen local food trucks. Admission is free for the semi-regular food fest.
