Washington City Paper reports that three-time Chopped champion Adam Greenberg is opening his tropical-themed restaurant, Coconut Club, next spring over by Dolcezza Factory. The Barcelona Wine Bar alum plans to serve poke, jerk chicken, and rum drinks at his first solo venture. [WCP]

Bethesda Magazine reports that journeyman chef Pedro Matamoros has left Barrel and Crow for a new gig in Baltimore. The sudden split sounds rather acrimonious. [BM]

Free ice cream from Uber

Ride-hailing service Uber is delivering free ice cream from Virginia-based frozen treat maker Scoops2u today. App users in the D.C. area can capitalize on the promotional giveaway between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.; those who receive a collectible silicone ice cream cone can claim free soft serve at participating McDonald’s each Friday from now until September 22.

Local liquor producer Miscellaneous Distillery is releasing its debut rye whiskey this afternoon. The first batch of Restless Rye Whiskey, which is made from locally grown grain, goes on sale in the Mt. Airy tasting room at 4 p.m. on August 11.
