Trump’s trumped up costs = profits
President Donald Trump’s D.C. hotel isn’t having any trouble in the cash department — though the thing is rarely operating at full capacity. Curbed DC summed up an article from WaPo, speculating that one of the reasons the hotel turned a $1.97M profit (instead of the projected $2.1M loss) is the high cost of the guest rooms (average is over $600/night) as well as the pricey food. Visitors spent $8.2M on food and drink alone — beating expectations by 37.2%. [Curbed DC]
Top tot intel
Churchkey isn’t just a spot to grab tatchos — they also serve tater tots for dessert, as the main ingredient in a $15 ice cream sundae. Washington City Paper has the lowdown: chef Bill Williamson coats the tots with cinnamon/sugar, scoops on Nutella ice cream, then tops it all with Chantilly-esque cream, candied hazelnuts and Bordeaux cherries. Free chicken alert
This Wednesday, August 16 will be an important day for Nando’s PERi-PERi fans able to book it to College Park in a timely fashion: the chain is giving away food for two blessed hours that day. From 6pm until 8pm, on offer are gratis quarter-chicken, chicken sandwich, wrap or pita. As to be expected, supplies and seating are limited.
Which sports which bars?
POPville poses an important question, spurred by a reader’s request: which sports bars in D.C. are good for which sports? Commenters are stoked on The Queen Vic, Dock FC and Drafting Table for soccer. There are a few commenters also asking for help with golf-watching and enjoying a nice curling game — sadly no takers on either. [POPville]
