THE MALL—The National Gallery of Art is offering a special brunch at its Garden Cafe throughout the month of September: a buffet ($30) with bottomless mimosas ($10 more). Selections include pancakes, Greek couscous, short ribs, kale salad, and plenty of other dishes.

UNION MARKET—For the months of August and September, Teaism is sharing its Union Market booth with Japanese sweets company Matsukawaya. The company specializes in raw “wagashi” — sweets made of fruits, mochi — which are usually served with matcha. The raw version of the sweets have a higher moisture content than the usual.

SHAW—The Bird’s carrying on the tradition of special drinks when someone in the Trump administration is fired — like today, when reports broke that Steve Bannon is no longer welcome at the White House. Previously, the Shaw restaurant had a special cocktail for when Anthony Scarmucci said goodbye to the political life.

PETWORTH—Himitsu, just named one of America’s best new restaurants by both Eater and Bon Appetit, shut down on Wednesday night for the sake of soda. Owner Carlie Steiner partnered with Pepsi at the invite-only event to create cola-based cocktails using its new 1893 line of original, ginger, citrus and black currant colas. Steiner stressed that the soda’s ingredient of “real sugar” is key for crafting a great cocktail.

SHAW—Dolci Gelati (1420 8th Street NW) is hosting a puppy hour on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., featuring furry Instagram “pup stars” @Sebastianlovesluna (with 71,000 followers strong) and free gelato samples for every dog that struts by, with 10 percent of sales going to the Human Rescue Alliance.

UNION MARKET—Attendees at the All Things Go Fall Classic (Oct. 6-8) have quite the food lineup to go along with ear candy from Foster the People; The food court was announced on Thursday and includes Maketto, Buredo, Ivy & Coney, Milk Cult, and DGS. And free food for VIP guests will come from Sweetgreen, &Pizza, and Takorean.

LEESBURG—Starting this Sunday, August 20, newish chocolate-themed spot The Conche will begin serving up brunch. On offer are both savory and sweet (including chocolate-spiked) treats like brunch flatbread with smoked bacon and chicken sausage and banana French toast & milk chocolate dulche de leche.

COLUMBIA HEIGHTS—Another DMV restaurant is getting in the brunch game: The Good Silver’s mid-morning meal service starts this weekend. Brunch will run at the “neighborhood cocktail bar and restaurant” each Saturday and Sunday, from 11am until 4pm.

DUPONT CIRCLE—Fantom Comics is seeking a permanent tavern license so it can serve booze (packaged beer, wine, cider, maybe some mixed drinks) for its events. Previously, the comic shop was going in for temporary liquor licenses for its events. [WBJ]
