Summer Snow Globe Is A Boozy Blizzard Hitting National Harbor

A dome-shaped winter wonderland is here

A gigantic clear snow globe with real snowfall just took shape at National Harbor, packed with spiked snow cones and cocktails in an attempt to recreate a season that’s still far away on the calendar.

The new immersive special events venue at the intersection of Waterfront Street and National Plaza, dubbed Harbor Dome, opens this weekend to the public alongside the Potomac River. This winter wonderland, with intermittent snow dustings, is the first of many themed activations planned for inside the structure.

The chilly setup, cooled at 64 degrees, will stay up every Thursday to Sunday through September 3 and serve liquid treats only.

Gina Chersevani of Union Market’s Buffalo and Bergen crafted six drinks to choose from at Summer Snow Globe, including three $12 snow cones and three $10 cocktails.

The Snowy Melon has Blood Orange Vodka and cinnamon, while the Kentucky Snow is packed with Marker’s Mark, sparkling wine, ginger, lime, and mint.

The Tropical Breeze cocktail has Mountain Dew White Label, Effen Vodka, grapefruit, pineapple, and ginger syrup, while the The Elf on Vacation is made with Effen Green Apple, Mountain Dew Green Label, and lemon.

Beer runs $6, while wine is $8.

The weekend will feature live snowball cornhole and music from White Ford Bronco on August 19 and Magic Giant on August 20. Entry ranges from $10 to $25.
