Getting there

Having just cleared another procedural hurdle, chef David Guas is now planning to open his latest D.C. restaurant in early September. Southern-style coffee shop and bakery Lil’ B is taking up residence alongside high-end seafood restaurant Siren at the Darcy hotel.

More Wharf happenings

Washingtonian reports that Michael Rafidi will pull double duty as executive chef of both recent arrival Arroz and the Mediterranean-themed Requin still taking shape along the Southwest waterfront. Requin co-founder Jennifer Carroll is expected to continue overseeing both the new restaurant and the original location in Mosaic District, though that spot is expected to switch to a more casual format in the coming months. Nam-Viet is back

ARLnow reports that neighborhood fixture Nam-Viet officially reopens its Arlington shop today following a month-long renovation. The local chain closed its Cleveland Park outpost a few months back. [ARLnow]

Dinner partying

James Beard Award-winning chef and restaurateur Aaron Silverman shares his dream dinner guest list with the Washington Post Magazine. The lineup: former President Barack Obama, former first lady Michelle Obama, singer Beyonce, and — his mom. “Because we rarely get to eat dinner together,” he says.

Barack Obama celebrated his birthday at Silverman’s flagship restaurant, Rose’s Luxury, in 2015. Michelle Obama dined there at least twice. [WaPo]
