‘Top Chef’ Alum Edward Lee Endorses Chiko, Plus More Intel

Obamas party at Rasika West End

James Beard nominee hails Barracks Row newcomer

Even as he hustles to wrap up work on the new Succotash restaurant scheduled to open inside the District later this month, Top Chef alum and restaurateur Edward Lee has not only found the time to dine at The Fried Rice Collective’s hot new restaurant, he’s declared Chiko his current favorite.

“I could eat here every night,” he says on social media.

43 celebrates 56 at familiar power dining spot

Former President Barack Obama marked his 56th birthday this past weekend with a celebratory meal at Rasika West End. Obama and his wife, Michelle, returned to the high-end Indian restaurant after partying there for his 52nd birthday in 2013. The award-winning establishment has been visited by members of current administration as well: first daughter Ivanka Trump has visited both the original Rasika and its West End counterpart since taking up residence in the District.

Obama celebrated his last birthday at Fiola Mare.

Food for thought

Politically plugged-in eatery Busboys and Poets (another place Obama has been) bolstered the book selling side of its Hyattsville outpost over the weekend, rolling out discounts for diners who lingered a little longer to scan the stacks at Busboys and Books. Founder and activist Andy Shallal designed the community minded meeting places as a tribute to renowned poet Langston Hughes.
