Say no to laptops, lap up coffee

ARLnow reports that a new pour-over coffee bar called Sense of Place asks customers to ditch laptops in order “to enjoy their drinks without distraction.” Also on the menu is its own house blend called Enzymo Coffee, as well as pastries, paninis, and sandwiches. Dupont Circle’s next booze destination inches closer to opening

PoPville reports that the prime vacancy left behind by the now-defunct STK is almost no more. Penn Quarter’s extensive beer bar City Tap House just threw up signage at 1250 Connecticut Avenue NW, which will be its second spot in the city. Opening date TBA. [PoPville]

Kwame, other ‘Top Chef’ talent accepts meaty challenge

Smithfield Foods just announced plans to give a whopping 80,000 pounds of protein to DC Central Kitchen and the Capital Area Food Bank. At an event set for Aug. 17, local Top Chef alums Spike Mendelsohn, Marjorie Meek-Bradley, and Kwame Onwuachi will cook with the hefty donation to prep 5,000 barbecue-style meals for nearby homeless shelters and nonprofits.
