More details are emerging about Union Trust, the new downtown bar coming from the owners behind neighborhood watering holes The Pug and Solly’s Tavern.
Last month PoPville broke the news about the new bar landing near the White House this fall. The developing spot plans to forgo any forks — there won’t be food, aside from potential snacks — and instead just stick with serving straight up booze.
The liquor license, which was just posted on its door at 740 15th Street NW, provides some additional insights about the forthcoming venture: “New tavern, specializing in higher end spirits, draft beer. Recorded music. Total Occupancy Load is 79.”
Its name is an ode to the building it resides in: the Union Trust Building, which also counts Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab, and the American Bar Association as tenants.
The high profile location is a 180 from the neighborhoods its owners are used to. Tony Tomelden hails from Atlas District standby The Pug, while John Solomon is vested in Solly’s on U Street; both men are involved with Brookland’s Finest Bar and Kitchen in Brookland.
