Taberna del Alabardero is filling carry-out orders (medium cake for six to eight people - $45; large cake for eight to 10 - $60) from Thursday, January 4, through Saturday, January 6, and will serve the specialty pastry in-house on Saturday; Le Diplomate is serving a rum-spiked version from Saturday, January 6, through Wednesday, January 31 ($12 a slice, $52 per cake; carry-out orders accepted 48 hours in advance); Bayou Bakery plans to sell its Creole cream cheese-filled cakes from Saturday, January 6, through Sunday, February 18, and will shave off 10 percent for carry-out orders ($39 - serves 12 to 14 people; 48 hours advance notice required) placed before Thursday, February 1.

Rockville Nights reports that homegrown Salvadoran restaurant Dona Cecy’s (2002 Veirs Mill Road, Rockville, Md.) has charmed social media users just weeks after joining the local dining scene. The area newcomer serves traditional dishes including pupusas, tripe soup, and grilled meats.

California chain Habit Burger is adding a third location in the area on Wednesday, January 10, with the debut of its latest outpost in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The new store (464 N. Frederick Avenue), which joins existing shops in neighboring Rockville, Maryland, and Ashburn, Virginia, plans to give away food for several days leading up to the grand opening, including free burger meals (burger, fries, and a drink) for the first 200 customers at 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., on Saturday, January 6; free meal deals for the first 200 customers at 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 7; and free meal deals for the first 200 customers at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9.
