Michelin-Starred Metier Tops Washingtonian’s Latest 100 Best List

Shaw’s subterranean, tasting menu-driven dining room jumps 13 spots in the annual guide

Metier, the nearly two-year-old restaurant in Shaw that last fall earned its first Michelin star, has rocketed to the top of Washingtonian’s 100 Very Best Restaurants guide for 2018.

The annual issue is projected to land on newsstands this week, but Washingtonian has released the names of the top 25 eateries around town to whet everyone’s appetite for the full rankings. Metier failed to crack Washingtonian’s top 10 last year, though Eric Ziebold — Eater’s chef of the year in 2016 — was well on his way to the head of the class with sibling restaurant Kinship; the more approachable of Ziebold’s fantasy dining destinations has dropped at least 21 spots this time around.

Three additions to the top 20 are just a few months old: the Southwest waterfront’s new paella source, Del Mar (3); flame grilling showplace Maydan (17); and restaurateur Mike Isabella’s now-flagship French restaurant, Requin (20). Elder statesman the Inn at Little Washington, which turns 40 this year and plans to savor every minute of it, drops a few more places (now at 12) but remains in the mix.
