Small-batch coffee company Lost Sock Roasters just signed on at Takoma’s historic theater project, with plans to join anchor tenant Children’s National’s Healthy Mind Brain Center in late 2019.
Lost Sock, which slings its beans inside Call Your Mother, will stock its new store with bagels from the “Jew-ish” deli in Park View that’s commanded long lines since opening this fall. It’ll be the first standalone retail site for Lost Sock, which is also sold at Anxo and Timber Pizza. The homegrown roaster founded by college roommates is based in Brightwood Park.
Rock Creek Property Group bought the 1920s-era Takoma theater in 2015 after it sat vacant for more than decade. That kicked off a multi-million-dollar restoration project. When complete, the converted industrial-style structure will feature exposed original steel trusses, soaring ceilings, skylights, and a restored marquee entrance.
Local juice maker Turning Natural will also fill out the retail space at the 23,000-square-foot historic theater coming together a few blocks from the Takoma Metro station.
Turning Natural currently has four area locations spread across the D.C. area with a fifth planned for MGM National Harbor. Each juice bar features veggie-heavy drinks with racy names like the “Green Latifah” and the “Just Blaze.” There is also healthy cafe fare such as acai bowls and black bean burgers on flaxseed buns.
