Developments

Asian eatery Thai Chef is introducing its new dessert bar Monday, February 12, by offering buy one get one free bubble waffles with ice cream through Tuesday, February 13. Co-owner Chalisa Fitts tells Eater the Thai tea-flavored waffles are a first for the area; other featured sweets include fried banana with ice cream (green tea, lychee, mango, coconut, sesame, or vanilla), Thai custard with toast, and assorted milk and tea drinks.

Spotted

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump stepped out over the weekend and wound up — where else — at BLT Prime. A tipster tells the Washington Post the Trumps “looked happy and cozy” during dinner February 10 at the only D.C. restaurant POTUS has visited since taking control of the Oval Office.

Switcheroos

Tipsters alerted Popville that Woodley Park’s newest Starbucks opened on February 10. The coffee chain took over the space formerly occupied by neighborhood Italian restaurant Cafe Paradiso (2649 Connecticut Avenue NW).

Temporary Shutter

Bethesda Magazine reports that homegrown Bistro Lazeez (8009 Norfolk Avenue, Bethesda, Md.) is closed pending a possible sale. Owner Ramzi Osseiran did not renew the operating license for the Mediterranean-themed restaurant in January.
