Novelty foods
Local blog Barred in DC has visited the new Pepperoni Chic, which replaced former deli Straw, Stick & Brick in Petworth, and finds that the pop-up eatery is serving nearly a dozen pepperoni rolls — including meat-free versions featuring gorgonzola, eggplant, and mushrooms (try finding those at a West Virginia gas station) — along with pasta dishes. Owner Karen Audia Shannon tells Barred she plans to keep Pepperoni Chic in place through the end of the year; she’s currently searching for a more permanent home.
The shutter
Bethesda Magazine reports that homegrown American-style bistro Mix Bar and Grille has closed its location in Potomac, Maryland. Owner Ramiro Paez tells Bethesda the nearly five-year-old restaurant (9812 Falls Road) was losing money due to the high rent required. Paez plans to keep the remaining Silver Spring location open.
Coming attractions
Washington City Paper reports that Rose’s Luxury and Primrose alum Lucas Power is hosting tasting dinners at Capitol Hill’s Le Bon Cafe (210 Second Street SE) in anticipation of opening his own restaurant later this year. The next 5-course dinner ($70; book reservations here) is scheduled for Friday, February 23.
Booze news
Glover Park mainstay Town Hall (2340 Wisconsin Avenue NW) has added bottomless drinks ($16 with the purchase of any entree) to its weekend brunch service. Featured beverages include mimosas, bellinis, and bloody marys.
