Arlnow reports that Pentagon Row’s new bakery and gourmet sandwich shop is now open.
Alexandria-based Bread & Water Company alerted fans that its debut Arlington restaurant was up and running over the weekend via social media.”’Soft’ opening! Come buy what we’ve got! And enjoy,” reads a handwritten message management posted on a blackboard outside the local producer’s newly refurbished kiosk.
A gallery of photos from the first day show customers eyeing a rack full of bread, as well as a sack of baguettes, but not much else in terms of ready-to-eat offerings. An espresso machine looks to be fully operational, but the remainder of the outpost appears to be a work in progress. Menu items available at Bread & Water’s flagship store include assorted breads, pastries, gourmet salads (some with seasonal fruit, others with ancient grains), and hearty sandwiches (eggs, bacon, and cheddar for breakfast; roasted chicken salad with red grapes and onion jam later in the day).
