The Shutter
On again, off again Asian eatery Ping Pong Dim Sum appears to be done in Penn Quarter. The international chain, which temporarily closed the same location back in 2016, has had chains on the doors since February 3 (several Yelp users complained over the weekend about not receiving word their brunch reservations would not be honored), and phone calls to the restaurant go straight to a full voicemail. A Dupont Circle location that lasted about four years closed in early 2016.
Expansions
Bethesda Magazine reports that burgeoning chain the Halal Guys is scheduled to open its first fast-casual restaurant in Maryland on Friday, February 16 at 891A Rockville Pike, Rockville, Md.
Coming attractions
New Columbia Heights has spotted signage for Karibbean Kitchen, a new restaurant taking shape at 1400 Meridian Place NW. The presumably island-themed eatery replaces small plates spot, the Getaway.
Food TV
Restaurateur David Guas (Bayou Bakery, Lil’ B) is guest judging the February 6 episode of Food Network’s Chopped. Tonight’s cooking competition, airing at 10 p.m., features a Mardi Gras-themed challenge.
