Caffeine nation

Hyattsville-based roaster Vigilante Coffee Co. has expanded to College Park, Maryland, providing University of Maryland students and professors with a new place to jump-start each day. The cafe (8200 Baltimore Avenue) is projected to operate from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. to start.

Expansions

Washington City Paper reports that Little Red Fox founders Matt and Jenna Carr plan to do more baking and start making ice cream near their flagship eatery. The duo have partnered with Tosca alum Lauren Parlato to enhance their sweets catalog; a fresh roster of ice creams, milkshakes, and baked goods will be available soon.

Coming attractions

Popville reports that the new restaurant replacing Logan Circle’s Tortilla Coast plans to serve Thai street food. Street Carts, a new venture from Phillips Seafood, is projected to feature “quick casual Asian food” as well as “fresh seafood and meats.”

The shutter

Arlnow reports that Crystal City standby Tortoise & Hare has closed. The neighborhood sports bar had been for sale since last summer but chose to shut down in late February when its lease expired.
