Area newcomer Tiki Taco suddenly sprung up March 14, offering Dupont Circle diners a taste of the tropics via Hawaiian-style tacos, poke, and a rotating selection of shave ice desserts.
A tipster alerted Popville that the new eatery was up and running in the space formerly occupied by nearly 20-year-old, Chicago-style pizzeria Alberto’s (2010 P Street NW). The website for the new arrival mentions a founder who spent some time in the South Pacific and pined for the foods he ate while living there.
Tiki Taco’s opening menu features a handful of tacos including tortillas filled with marinated pork, jerk chicken, crispy tofu, and seasonal fish selections topped with mango salsa. There’s also four types of poke bowls (including a vegetarian option), taco salad bowls (hail to the chief!), spicy chicken wings, guacamole, pea-green “edamumus” (so, hummus made with soybeans?), and the aforementioned frozen treat.
The photo of a streetside menu board posted on Popville shows pending breakfast offerings including egg-filled tacos, burritos, a burger with brown gravy, pork hash, and huevos rancheros.
Tiki Taco is projected to operate from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. to start.
