Seasoned brewer turned restaurateur Bill Madden closed neighborhood watering hole Mad Fox Taproom in Glover Park on Tuesday, March 27 due to its lack of profitability.

“Unfortunately, we are not able to maintain the profit margins necessary to keep the location viable,” the founder of Mad Fox Brewing Company in Falls Church, Virginia wrote in a statement sent to Eater. “We want to thank the residents of Glover Park and our loyal fans for their support and patronage over the last 2-1/2 years.”

The D.C. outpost, which debuted in August 2015, featured a rotating selection of beers Madden and his brewing team have developed throughout his career. Madden opened his Northern Virginia-based production brewery and brewpub in July 2010; before that he worked at now-defunct Leesburg, Virginia restaurant and brewery Vintage 50, and diminishing local chain Capitol City Brewing Company.

Madden says he will continue making his award-winning beers at Mad Fox Brewing Company, and notes that Mad Fox brews will continue flowing at D.C. locations including Nationals Park.
