Expansions
Bluestone Lane, the Australian coffee chain that’s already opened two D.C. stores in the West End and Georgetown, has signed a lease to plant a 1,014-square-foot shop in Navy Yard. The forthcoming location (99 M Street SE) is projected to open before the end of the year.
Developments
D.C.’s debut whole grain bakery and mill is beefing up its menu with new breads and breakfast options. Seylou is now selling wheat-free “bird” bread produced with local millet, plus oats, flax, and pumpkin seeds, as well as granola combining buckwheat, rolled oats, and local hickory syrup.
The shutter
Bethesda Magazine reports that septuagenarian restaurateur Kwok Cheung is closing Chinese mainstay Shanghai Village (4929 Bethesda Avenue) at the end of the year. Kwok is looking forward to retiring after nearly 40 years in the hospitality industry.
