BALLSTON—Ice Cream Jubilee founder Victoria Lai recently swung by the Ballston BID office last month to chat about the early makings of the brand (hear the podcast here). The expanding sweets maker is slated to debut inside the Ballston’s Quarter Market food hall later this year.

MULTIPLE LOCATIONS—Vegetarian-friendly local chain Beefsteak just rolled out a new spring menu and one new item transforms trendy avocado toast into a salad. Besides the Avo Toasty, there’s a Santorini Salata featuring red pepper hummus and curried cauliflower — and the Beefsteak Tomato Burger is making its way back on the menu, with a beefsteak tomato slathered in caper herb mayo on an olive oil brioche bun.

MULTIPLE LOCATIONS—Chef José Andrés is celebrating his debut restaurant, Penn Quarter’s Jaleo, which opened 25 years ago. A tasting menu at the tapas spot includes best sellers like pan manchego ($55), and 25 throwback specials starting Monday, April 9. The party continues with cooking classes at Jaleo Bethesda and a big anniversary bash planned for late May. In other Andrés news, sister spot Zaytinya has a four-course dinner ready for Monday, April 9, featuring dishes from chef Aglaia Kremezi and author Joan Nathan’s cookbooks.

ATLAS DISTRICT—Eater has spotted new signage for the Ledo Pizza moving into the former Halal Guys spot (814 H Street NE). The square pie maker, which started in Maryland, has dozens of locations in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

MULTIPLE LOCATIONS—Homegrown chain California Tortilla is fusing Indian food with its Tex-Mex offerings, creating a limited-edition tikka masala offering. Those interested in the fast-casual mash-up are welcome to layer the featured chicken, tomato-based masala sauce, chickpea salad, and pickled red onion into tacos, burritos, or rice bowl from Monday, April 2 to Saturday, June 30.

NAVY YARD—Grilled pizza chain Oath Pizza is working on opening its second location in the area, posting new signage at its forthcoming outpost near Nationals Park (110 M Street SE) alerting locals that “you’re invited to our grand opening celebration.” The Massachusetts-based company, which opened its first shop outside Boston last fall in Mosaic District, has not announced an opening date for the Navy Yard store.
